It built upon the other entries in the franchise, being lauded for its fun story and addictive gameplay. Of course it was also a great Pokemon RPG as well. This pedometer accessory allowed players to level up their Pokemon just by walking around, resulting in players spending hours and hours with the franchise outside of staring at the screen. On top of adding a massive quest to the remake of Pokemon Gold and Silver (originally released in 1999), it gave us the Pokewalker. While a ton of Pokemon RPGs have been released over the years, HeartGold/SoulSilver was special because it changed the way we interfaced with the series. The battles are crazy and fun, but the game's totally insane story and crazy sense of humor are what make it stand out. Oh and he's the entire game world too, because Mario and Luigi have been gobbled up by the gluttonous villain. The third in the Mario & Luigi RPG series, Bowser's Inside Story adds the King Koopa to the roster. Mario has been in a number of bizarre situations before, but this game takes the cake. Spirit Tracks doesn't deviate too much from the celebrated formula - there are boomerangs, Master Swords, and a princess named Zelda - but among the train, the better-designed dungeons, and the Spirit Flute (which used the mic on the DS), Spirit Tracks offers enough cool stuff to be a great adventure in its own right.
